It’s been a long time. How have you been?

So it’s been a while. The usual promises of updating a blog/website with content that never materialised; and a lot has happened in that time. So let’s go over some of it!

  • I started a new job! At the start of 2023, I started working for DigiCert, specifically for their DNS business as a Senior Principal Software Engineer; with the majority of my time looking after the PerfOps platform. I’m now working more generally across their DNS products with a focus on devops, containerisation, scaling, observability, etc.
  • I finally started coming out of the depressive slump I’d been in since 2019. I managed to start some more small open source projects for LAN parties – Control and Music Party. I’ve still some way to go to get back to where I used to be, but things are looking better now!
  • One of the long-standing projects I’d been involved in since 2019, City of Heroes: Homecoming, finally got a license from NC Soft at the start of 2024 and is now operating as an officially sanctioned server!
  • In UK LAN parties, after the demise of Insomnia and Player 1 Events, I was involved in helping the StratLAN team and UK LAN Techs take over the running of StratLAN – keeping an event going that has been around since the early 2000s.
  • Even though my job isn’t particularly PHP focussed, I’m trying to be more involved with the PHP community and will be starting to submit talks for conferences and PHP user groups this year. I’ve got a couple of topics I think I could cover quite nicely.
  • Two new cats! Moopsy and Moogle. They’re white, have heterochromia and are utterly adorable and troublesome.
  • After much encouragement from Gina Banyard and Sara Golemon, I’ve submitted a tiny bugfix for PHP for an issue I found 16 years ago and it’s being released as part of PHP 8.5. More details are definitely coming to a lightning talk somewhere! I might try and contribute more to PHP in future.
  • I was diagnosed with ADHD in March 2025, and it turns out it was affecting me quite badly in some ways. I’m now on a great treatment plan and things are looking amazing; but it would explain me not updating this website as often as I should!

So that’s the catch-up really. Lots has been happening; lots I want to do in future; and I want to provide more updates here!

Coming up next, probably a write up on phpday 2025.
